Hello. My name is Captain Nick Winger and welcome to my web site. If you have plans on visiting, vacationing in, or already live in the beautiful state of Florida there is no more relaxing and or exciting way to spend a day than being out on the bountiful pristine waters of Tampa Bay or Boca Grande pass (May and June tarpon season only). From having almost fifteen years of experience as being a U.S. Coast Guard licensed professional fishing guide and over thirty years as a diehard recreational angler, I guarantee the knowledge and skills not only necessary in aiding the filming of two segments of mark Sosin's Salt Water Journal and leading ESPN's Cyril Chaquet to one of the largest tarpon ever landed on film, but also the knowledge and skills necessary to entertain and safely guide yourself, family, friends, or business clients in and around the waters of Tampa Bay.
This vast area boasts countless miles of pristine waterways, including open bays, passes, mangrove lined backcountry, shallow grass flats, and sugar sand beaches - all of which create a world class fishery and also support Florida as being the "Fishing Capitol of the World".
The Tampa Bay area is highly regarded for it's tarpon, snook, redfish, cobia, and trout fishing. Landing a legal size snook, redfish, and trout in the same day is considered a grand slam. Add a tarpon to the list and you have a super slam! Catching all four species in the same day sometimes takes a lot of running and gunning, but it's a lot of fun trying. Especially to those who succeed... I specialize in and offer live bait. artificial, and fly fishing charters for all of the mentioned species and others including kingfish, spanish mackerel, snapper, and grouper. From the novice to the seasoned angler, I have the experience, knowledge, and fun personality to ensure that your day on the water will be successful, memorable, and most of all relaxing and fun....
I run half and full day trips. A half day usually lasts around four hours. A full day is usually six to eight hours. For the die-hards, it's up to you - I'm not a clock watcher. I supply everything needed for an enjoyable / successful day on the water, including license, tackle, bait, and a on board cooler with bottled water and ice. The only items clients are responsible for bringing are sun block, food, beverages other than water (alcoholic beverages are welcome), and don't forget the camera. Corporate or multiple boat charters are easily arranged with ample notice.
My sponsors are some of the largest companies in the fishing industry including, Berkley, Fenwick, Abu Garcia, and Lee Fisher Inc. Thanks to them, all of my equipment from the tackle to the boat is new and up to date. I fish from two different boats depending on the type of fishing being done for that day: A 21' Mojarra custom made flats skiff or a 22.2 classic Aqua Sport tower boat.
The Tampa Bay area offers top-notch lodging, restaurants, and entertainment. Tampa bay is also known nationwide for the nightlife activities in historic Ybor City and Downtown Tampa (Channel Side). The lodging ranges from five star to rustic and peaceful waterfront locations. I also offer a weekly beautiful two story, four bedroom, with pool, waterfront rental home ( thevacationrentalhome.com) just minutes from my home marina.
All fishing, lodging, entertainment, and restaurants are conveniently located to Tampa International and Sarasota airports.
